some of our favourite things

September 26, 2012 2 min read

Homes should be filled with things we love, creating a haven that inspires, comforts and reflects the dwellers.  Steve and I wanted to show you some of the things that fill our space.  White walls throughout most of the house are our canvas.

A custom studio50 side table made of steel and salvaged walnut wood. Vintage or industrial anything always peaks our interest...feeling breezy with this small collection of vintage fans.  Keeping us warm during the winter months is a chateau gas fireplace with a custom concrete mantel and a pallet surrounding.  A classic barn door slider gives this old door a display perch to show off it's beautiful hardware and intricate glass work, dating from the early 1900's. Our newest pleasure is a canvas featuring a collection of wine corks..titled "screwed and dumped". Always find the humour in life.

We've just updated the outside lighting with this durable pair, aluminium fixture + steel bracket = enlightening..  Love, globes and maps so those are scattered throughout the house...it's a nice reminder that our world is dimensional. A custom studio50 dining table standing on a steel base inset into 2 old barn beams.  The top is made with 100 year old 2 x 8 boards of douglas fir and the centre piece is a cast concrete board. Some loft spool clocks will be making their way soon to the studio tour section for purchase. We have bundles of drift wood...drifting about the house... into pictures, jewellery and magic wand wielding. Last but not least for this little collection is the "fallen willow" shelf.  Made from cuts of willow logs and attached to a board transforming into a shelf desk for hiding all the cook books, of which there are many.  A slight addiction some might say.

Collections are good or at least we think so.  Smart storage or use of a collection is what turns clutter into art!

Ever wondered what the difference is between cement and concrete? Well, maybe not...but here at Studio50, concrete is an everyday thing. It’s not unusual to hear the two terms used interchangeably, but they are definitely two very different things.
