room and board

May 25, 2013

Yesterday evening the studio hosted 8 makers for the vintage cutting board workshop. What an exceptional visit we had. The creativity was flowing and the determination to tackle the blades and sanders well under their belts.  The end product...unique custom art pieces to add warmth to the kitchen or some lucky person's if gifted to a fellow foodie.

Steve and I were so inspired by their oneness with the wood and the process of designing and making. To boot we also supplied each maker with a great night workout!

sanding,
sanding,
sanding and..
you guessed it, more sanding! :)
Although it is arduous, a thorough sanding is what transform a basic piece of wood into something beautiful.
There was also, the drill press, bandsaw and jigsaw that the makers used to shape their boards.
The cutting boards were crafted from domestic hardwoods like, cherry, walnut or maple and all showcased a large scale size and organic vibe.
Once the makers cut their boards, sanded and make any redesigns...we had a few refreshments...
Then we finished up by wiping the boards and seasoned with coconut oil and a beeswax blend.

THE FIELD OF CREATIVITY
THAT EXISTS WITHIN EACH INDIVIDUAL
IS FREED BY MOVING OUT OF IDEAS OF
WRONG-DOING OR RIGHT-DOING.
