Maple and Concrete Table to "The Royal City"

May 02, 2014

The rain could not dampen our excitement on Wednesday as we loaded up this precious cargo and headed to Guelph, our old stomping grounds, to deliver this stunning custom spalted maple and concrete dining table. DSC_0005
The table top is made of two, 2" spalted maple slabs with live edge. The markings through the grain are spectacular, and remind us of the intricate details on an old map. It's really amazing how nature can create such beautiful surprises. The dimensions of the table top is 48"w-44"w and 6'6''l. DSC_0002DSC_0020
The centre is fitted with a custom-cast beam of concrete, that was polished to reveal the aggregate and then sealed. The concrete adds visual interest to the table top, and functionally can double as a built-in trivet, as hot and cold dishes can be placed directly onto its surface.

The steel legs were designed to accommodate our clients' existing dining chairs, and offers lots of space around and at the end of the table for ample seating. The steel was left raw and sealed to preserve its natural patina and character.

We absolutely loved designing and creating this piece. And we are so happy that it now has a beautiful home to call its own!
