Experience something new and create some amazing memories in an inspiring space!
Our concrete experiences are held in a beautiful restored barn, turned studio space on our 2 area property in Paris, Ontario. The atmosphere is airy, relaxed and all about slowing down and enjoying the people you're with, while learning something new.
The group size is small, with a maximum of 8. Your experience is guided by Steve and Kim the owners and husband and wife team of Studio50 who have been casting concrete for over 12 years.
After you finish your 2 pieces the group gets a glimpse of studio life behind the scene with a tour of our workshop and studio. We finish your experience off with a light lunch in celebration of your creativity and time shared together.
We supply everything you will need. You just need to bring yourself!
We provide aprons, safety glasses, dust masks, and nitrile gloves to help keep most of the dust/debris from getting onto your clothes.
Like any activity where you have the potential to get materials on your clothing, please wear clothing that you are OK with getting a little concrete on.
We ask all participates to plan on making sure they are here and ready to begin on time. We will be sharing and demonstrating to you the process first which will be super helpful when it's your turn to start mixing and pouring your casts.
Studio50 Living is located at 772 Governors Road East, Paris Ontario. Our workshops are held in the 2nd floor loft area of our studio space in the 100 year old barn that we've restored and converted to our studio shop and learning loft. There will also be a little behind the scenes tour of our workshop space which is an old army base hanger, located on the back of our 2 acre property.
We have a large gravel parking area for all our participates right in front of the studio on our property.
We have an absolute max of 8 work stations for each workshop. We keep the workshops size at 6 participants which allows us to spend time assisting with each person when needed. One ticket is for one participant.
Given the climate were are still in we will be looking at this case by case.
YES! If you still have the code for it, you can enter it in during the checkout process.
We're thrilled that you love Studio50 concrete furniture and homewares, thank you! The textured gaia grey and textured almost-white is our signature personal style that we have created over several years. We will not be demonstrating or discussing this artistic process. The focus of the workshops are for you to experience the basics of hand-casting, the importance of a mold, and learning what qualities you should be looking for in a "sound" and sealed concrete piece.
Repetition of the process is key when hand-casting concrete. In our Mid-Mod Vase you will be casting 3 of the same pieces. In our Tic Tac Toe workshop you cast a set of concrete cubes, and set of concrete spheres. Each mold will have you repeat the process of prepping, mixing and pouring. Having to commit to one cast at a time also keeps things nice and relaxed.
Our workshops are not suitable for children. Participants must be 15 years or older.
The pieces you cast will need to cure for 24 hours before they are removed from the mold. Someone from the Studio50 team (Kim, Steve or Julie) will de-mold your casts, give them a light sand and give them one coat of sealer. Once they are ready, we will email you for the pickup at our studio. If you would prefer us to ship them, you can add that option from our workshop page.
