  • valentine's workshops part 2

    February 18, 2014 2 min read

On Saturday, we hosted a wonderful, eclectic group of makers for our second Valentine's weekend trencher workshop. The makers were given a wide selection of gorgeous hardwood boards to choose from and set off with their partners to make their personalized pieces.

It was nice to see bench buddies working together to sort out design dilemmas and the outcome was several different handle styles gracing the boards. And then there was sanding...lots and lots of sanding!

When sanding and branding were all complete, the boards were wiped down and we floated into the kitchen to the wonderful spread waiting for the makers to enjoy. Once again, Steve's sister, Carissa, catered the event and created the beautiful menu.

We want to send out a big THANK YOU to Carissa, who not only spent the weekend with us preparing meals for our makers, but also prepared all the meals for Steve and me during the day! (I could totally get used to having a live-in chef). All that pampering gave us time to prep, clean up the shop and re-organize for the arrival of the makers for the trenchers workshop that evening. It was such a luxury to us, a huge help, and we really appreciate it.

With palettes satisfied we headed back into the studio to lightly sand the boards and then adjusted the tunes to create the mood for the buttering.

Cue "Unchained Melody"...Yes! This couple got inspired and decided to entertain my romantic efforts!

We had so much fun with all of our makers this Valentine's weekend and look forward to hosting more couple's workshops in the future!

Ever wondered what the difference is between cement and concrete? Well, maybe not...but here at Studio50, concrete is an everyday thing. It’s not unusual to hear the two terms used interchangeably, but they are definitely two very different things.
