the board walk

September 18, 2013 1 min read

It was nice to shift gears and have some makers out to the studio to participate in the cutting board workshop on Thursday evening.
As always the boards didn't disappoint offering unique character for the makers to choose from and of course lots and lots of tender lovin sanding.
When that was all completed the makers moved on to customizing the handles and design of their boards. Everyone wiped the wood down with a damp cloth after completing their 150 grit hand sanding and then headed outside to enjoy the calm fall evening while relaxing and savouring samples from the tasters menu.
The evenings menu consisted of a spiced vegan pumpkin soup served from studio50's custom rock bottom vessel. There is a workshop coming up on October 17th to hand craft your very own! Reserve your spot soon.  Fresh baguettes were topped with a baked brie and tart apple and cranberry chutney.  For dessert a skillet of warm baked apples stuffed with a maple crumble, a ginger infused Creme Brulee and my favourite raw fudge, chocolate almond swirl. All rested, everyone headed back into the studio to lightly sand their board to smooth out any wood fibres that lifted from the wipe down.  Then makers were handed their seasoning jars of organic expelled coconut oil and beeswax blend and watched their pieces transform. Magic!
Interested in coming out to studio50 to experience the makers workshop! The next cutting board workshops are taking place on Friday October 4th and Thursday October 10th.  Great Christmas Gift Idea. Email kim@studio50.ca  or call 226-208-1428 to reserve your spot.

Ever wondered what the difference is between cement and concrete? Well, maybe not...but here at Studio50, concrete is an everyday thing. It’s not unusual to hear the two terms used interchangeably, but they are definitely two very different things.
