Studio Slice | The Inner Workings

In the beginning of April we sent out our first newsletter for 2016!  The quarterly issue offered a glimpse into the upcoming months for the demo and renovation of the old barn soon to be our new Studio50 space. We wanted to share a few more pictures and details into the project.

Built in the early 1900's the barn was used for livestock, mostly chickens and later was a store front for the sales of siding and aluminum goods.  As the layers begin to be removed the farm fresh smell is definitely confirming its history. The potential of this building is one of the big reasons we couldn't resist purchasing the property and relocating last November.

950 square feet on the main floor of the building will be for showcasing and browsing our finished pieces and collections. The flow from this room leads to 3 other destinations.

Exiting the side french doors of the studio you will enjoy the outdoor living space. A pool and small pond with a waterfall and beautiful trees, offer nooks for quiet reflection, gathering and reclaiming time for leisure.   Now that spring looks like it is officially here to stay we are eager to get the water features cleanup and operating.

Back in the studio there are stairs leading up to the gathering loft. The 1000 square feet will offer opportunities for people to connect, gather and explore while partaking in one of our retreats, workshops and other mindful and creative experiences we are looking forward to offering.

Back on the main floor and down 3 steps is 650 square feet, designated for our shipping and stockroom.

Our ethos brings together the people and things we love in our everyday.  Creating these spaces on our property devoted to connecting and nurturing these principles of what we do...the designing and making of slow goods and fostering these ideals of slow living, keeps us authentic to our vision.  This was rooted many years back on a family trip and influenced by the old European work/play lifestyle.

The transformation of the building will take place over the next few years.  In May we will finish removing old materials from the attic and loft and then add framing and bracing. Concrete floors will be poured for the studio space we will have an even durable surface.  Upstairs the spongy old floor boards will be removed and replaced with new sheeting and planks.  New windows and insulation throughout the whole building will be added, as well as electrical (the one 60 watt bulb just isn't cutting it) heating ducts, water lines, and then the drywall and lights.  As for the outside, the details for that re- design is still mulling around in our brains. Timeline...bit by little bit

We look forward to keeping you all updated on our progress!

Ever wondered what the difference is between cement and concrete? Well, maybe not...but here at Studio50, concrete is an everyday thing. It’s not unusual to hear the two terms used interchangeably, but they are definitely two very different things.
