  • 2012 fall maker's workshops

    October 31, 2012 2 min read

It has been a busy couple of weeks with all sorts of projects on the go.  Today we are excited to highlight pieces created from amazing young local artists!!! It was great to see how all these creative minds work and grasp new concepts and apply them.  Overall 111 pumpkins are now gracing the ledges, counters or tables of homes with some traditional looks and some not so traditional.  Each student got to hand select 3 pieces of wood that we pre
-drilled holes into so they would be able to arrange them as they wish, and then fasten them together by threading with sisal rope and tying and knotting at the top.

The below 3 pictures are a collection of the grade 1 pumpkin patch.

Below is a collection of grade 4 student pumpkins and also cold porcelain pieces that they sculpted using their hands and other sculpting tools and later made into pendants.  Some made marshmallows with the clay that looked dangerously real!

The grade 4 students also enjoyed a workshop creating movable mummies.  Abstract thinking and working with wire, a material new to many of them.  It was a great way to tap into their patience and "go with it" mode to get to the end product! Great job!

We also did a workshop with a local girl guides division/sparks, the youngest age group.  Many of the owls took flight before I got to snap their picture, but here are a few of these burlap button birds.

Studio50 would once again like to thank Kings Wood Products for donating all the wood used for these workshops and also the following sites for their inspiration for the fall workshops.

Ever wondered what the difference is between cement and concrete? Well, maybe not...but here at Studio50, concrete is an everyday thing. It’s not unusual to hear the two terms used interchangeably, but they are definitely two very different things.
